An Author at my School!
Good afternoon! Yesterday, children's book author Charles Smith came to our school to talk to us about writing! It was really inspiring and I wanted to share some tips that he shared with us!
1. Learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
To progress, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Being comfortable won't get you anywhere!
2. Read. A lot.
When you read, your vocabulary improves SO much! When you read words in context, it really helps you learn the definitions.
3. Flip through the dictionary once in a while.
If you don't know how to spell a word or you don't know what it means, instead of looking it up, find it in the dictionary because you can pick up other words too!
4. Don't let anyone tell you how to write.
Write in your own style! Writing is a form of expression, not a science.
I really loved Charles' presentation and I hope you use these tips in the future! I will leave the link to his website below! I will also be moving my posting day to Wednesdays because of an inconvenience on Tuesdays, so make sure to subscribe to receive updates every week! Thanks for reading!
