Review: "The Girl With Seven Names: Escape From North Korea" by Hyeoneseo Lee with David J

Hi fellow readers! Welcome back! I have finally reached the end of The Girl With Seven Names, written by Hyeonseo Lee, and it was utterly FANTASTIC. Lee throughly documents her experience growing up in the "brainwashed" nation of North Korea, and the stories are beyond unimaginable. Her descriptions of her life as a young girl living in the extreme communistic country are written with amazing detail, and all of her feelings from this time bleed right through the page! The life she lived in her origin country was unbelievable, and the story of her escape was harrowing. Lee's stories from her brave strides to freedom were brilliantly written, as they told the tale of a young adult living in a new country on her own. Every portion was beautifully executed, and I never wanted to put the book down! Her style was clear, yet incredibly detailed. I was surprised at how much she remembered! Hyeoneseo is an inspiration, and her story was beautifully shared in The Girl With Seven Names. The insight into such an unfamiliar society was not only interesting and alien, but thorough and educational. Her perspective as an escapee makes you think about how different life is across the world, and helps you value the freedom of expression and thought that most of us have today. A HUGE thank you to Hyeoneseo for sharing her unbelievable journey with the world, and becoming an advocate for those who are still living in this sticky situation. This is a MUST. READ.

Final Thoughts:

Rating: 10/10 - Incredible!

Age Range: 12-13+ - It might be difficult to conceptualize for younger readers, and there is some mature content discussed (very little though).

Would I see the movie? Absolutely!

Overall, would I recommend this? YES!

Thank you for reading this week's (late... sorry) post, and I hope to see you next month! See you all on the flip side!
