Review: "The Help" By Kathryn Stockett

Uh huh, you read right, I'm finally doing a review for The Help! I read like a WILDFIRE today just so I could do this review! I hope you enjoy!

So to start off, this book is TOP NOTCH. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it. I think that it might be my new favorite! It had a homey, Southern feel to it that was undeniably comforting and irresistible in a way. The main characters, Aibileen, Minny, and Ms. Skeeter, were SO incredible. Although they were dealing with their own main conflict, which was writing the anonymous interview-based book about Black maids called "The Help", they each had their own conflicts, which really helped expose the characters' way of living. The author really portrayed the way their thoughts and inner-conflicts with perfection, and that made it impossible to peel your eyes away from. I also loved the way that the author used a Southern accent to write the maid's thoughts. It gave it that sense of reality and made it really easy to understand that period of time. And possibly one of the coolest features that I found in this book was the use of language to set a mood. One example was how Ms. Skeeter said "Daddy" to portray her father, but "Mother" to portray her mom. I realized this later in the book, but it gave a feeling that she was very close to her father and adored him, but viewed her mother as a disciplinarian. I really respect this use of language, for it is not easy to get this message across. I enjoyed reading this book more than any book in a while, so I would love to thank my English teacher, Mrs. Thornton, for recommend in it to me! It was incredible, and actually changed my life. I can't say enough about it!

Final Thoughts:

Rating: 10/10 - I LOVED it!

Age Range: 12+ - It's a hard book to read because of the sad and horrible actions of the segregation-pro characters in the book.

Would I see the movie? Oh yeah!

Overall, would I recommend this? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Thank you so much for your patient wait for this review, and make sure to com back next week for more book talk!
